If a Claim Happens to You . . .

Over the last year, there has been bad weather and storms devastating many areas of our country. I want to share with you the importance of filing an insurance claim the RIGHT way with the RIGHT DATES so that you are prepared in case you find yourself needing to file a claim.

It can really make a HUGE difference when filing a claim, especially when it    pertains to wind, hail, or lightening damage. If it isn’t turned in with the correct date, it COULD CAUSE an increase in premium and loss of discounts as a chargeable claim.  Here is the claims process:

  • The claims Process. Once you report a loss it goes to our claims department for handling. They are responsible for all aspects of the claim including all payments, rental car help and settling with other parties. Generally all calls should be made to your adjuster first, that helps limit the time between answers.
  • The time frame. Most claims are settled quickly, within 10-15 days of the first call. If your claim seems to be taking longer than you would like and your adjuster isn’t responsive, please feel free to call us and we’ll be glad to check on it for you.
  • Your Part. Please respond promptly to any communication you receive from the claims department or our office.  This will help speed the claim process. Keep copies of any documents that may be important to settling your claim, such as police reports, receipts, or notes of conversations.
  • Our Part. One of the most important reasons to do business with Meschter Insurance is the assistance we provide when you’ve had a loss.  Please feel free to call us at any point during the claims process if you feel you aren’t getting the service you deserve. We work for you and we are always here to help.
